Apparently, the Govt. itself authorizes this!!
Maybe it's time we re-define the word 'humane', if this is what we've come to.
How do those people sleep during the night?!

Horrendous! But I'm not surprised that some of the govts have authorized this. Contrary to popular perception, govts have very little to do with enforcement of ethics. They operate by statistics. Seal population is endangered, protect it; Seal population is excessive, legalize hunting it. Also the role of govt in enforcing ethics is limited to how the majority population percieves ethics. And unforunately, animal lovers are a minority in all parts of the world. In places like the US, a majority of the population might be pet owners, but they don't care about animals that don't reside in their homes.
I'm pretty pessimistic about this until animals acquire voting rights.
I agree, but what really took me by surprise was that the Cannadian govt. agreed to this horrendous act even when the seal count has dropped drastically due to melting glaciers!! Are these people even thinking?!
