Goodbye to blackouts?

Let me begin with - Yay! We've finally got the verdict on the confidence vote! - And while I'm not proud to have witnessed the way this vote was won at the Lok Sabha, it's comforting to see some of our MPs have a sound mind on their shoulders. Why the Left front has been so adamant about scratching the deal, is anyone's guess. I'm just glad there'll be less arguing on which equipment stays on and which not (our UPS is a shame to it's kind!).

As P. G. Wodehouse would put it - 'Cheerio, for now!'

Well, I would have prefered if Indian Scientists had the capability to build/design the technology required for Nuclear Energy, thus not forcing anybody to beg for the same.

Alas, this deal, though useful, 20 years later and in peaceful times, will force the nation to be crippled.

Imagine, India does another nuclear test or gets engaged in a war like scenario with the neighbours and IAEA/US etc impose sanctions!

There, back to UPS.

@ deepti - Will have the tag up tomorrow. Thanks!

@ spiff - The whole idea of the IAEA is to be a global energy management body. Obviously every government that signs up with them, understands the need to keep them out of their defence related works. Then again, that's just me :).

i hope our grandchildren reap the benefits of this...some day!!

Well, from what I gather, we should be able to see some benefits ourselves :)... and pretty soon at that...

Considering the current state of affairs, the govt. can't possibly overlook the amount of loss the industry will face with electricity shortage.

India would join the ranks with others in the exclusive club of nuclear powers to begin with and potentially it would spiral into India joining UN Security Council :) – not all the coal, thermal, hydel, solar, wind mills in India can generate enough power to light half of Bangalore by 2020 – this could well be the answer – cheers to Manu and Sonu

LOL! Manu & Sonu, eh?!! Nice...

I told y'all. This deal is a disaster!!

Every thing that Govt said in the parliament was a lie.

Thanks for that.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see what the govt. comes up with.
